Michelle Crochett was addicted to her mother’s Rocky Road candy, so she created her own version using local, natural ingredients. Soon, she was selling her candy in local specialty food stores in San Francisco. Once her business took flight, she turned her attention to making an excellent caramel without using any corn syrup. California wildflower honey turned out to be the perfect base, and she knew she was onto something when, while making a batch, two big bees flew into her kitchen window, lured by the aroma. After much recipe (and taste) testing in her urban kitchen, Michelle’s caramels made their sweet debut at the beginning of this year.“I get my honey from California bees, my cream from Straus and my chocolate from Guittard. I love when I can source my ingredients from within California.”
